Explore Monroe!
The Explore Monroe program was initiated to engage young people in their community, Explore Monroe allows youth and their families to learn about the resources, programs, educational opportunities and destinations available within Monroe County.
The game board design allows participants to keep track of their progress as they visit participating organizations. All participants can easily track their progress on the Explore Monroe game board by entering an ‘Explorer Code’ from the organization they visited.
All youth under the age of 18 will need to have a parent or guardian’s permission to participate on the program’s site. Youth will also be able to log-in and see all the events offered by Monroe County’s Youth Bureau as well as Explore Monroe’s partners, such as the Rochester Red Wings, Rochester Museum and Science Center, and the George Eastman House.
Explore Monroe participants, or ‘Explorers’, will also have the ability to post photos and blog about their experiences enjoying our many county resources. Also, Explorers are eligible for fun prizes like zoo passes, movie tickets, and more!

Monroe County
Monroe County is made up of 19 Towns, 10 Villages and the City of Rochester, covering a total area of 1,367 square miles. Named after our 5th United States President, James Monroe, Monroe County was created from portions of Ontario and Genesee Counties on February 23, 1821.
Monroe County is led by our County Executive, Cheryl Dinolfo. She oversees an annual operating budget of $932 Million, a workforce of nearly 4,500 employees and a population of almost 750,000. Monroe County manages a broad range of governmental operations which affect the safety, health, and quality of life for the local community and its residents.
Monroe County is the home to many successful businesses such as Wegmans, Bausch & Lomb, LiDestri Foods, and Paychex, just to name a few. In fact, Tim Hortons roasts coffee for all of their 715 U.S. locations in Henrietta. Also, Star of the West Milling Co. located in Churchville is over 200 years old and produces all of the flour used by Dunkin Donuts locations east of the Mississippi River. And yet another cool fact about Monroe County: we are the #2 minor league sports market in America thanks to our home teams like the Red Wings, Amerks and Razorsharks.
The Rochester-Monroe County Youth Bureau
Since 1960, the Rochester-Monroe County Youth Bureau has provided opportunities for the youth of Monroe County have fun, learn, be engaged and receive information for many very important youth services. We support prevention and intervention services including: youth development, delinquency prevention, runaway-homeless youth services, and recreation programs that build on positive youth development.
The Rochester-Monroe County Youth Bureau recognizes that the youth of today are more technologically advanced than any other generation. Along with our funding partners we want to ensure that as a community we continue to expand our knowledge, our practice, and outcomes to best serve our youth and families. Adding technological components and offering interactive opportunities are among our many focuses.
