A message from County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo!
Dear Summer Reading Participant,
Welcome to the 2016 Monroe County Summer Reading Program!
This initiative is a great opportunity to increase your reading time and strengthen your skills throughout the summer while you and your family enjoy all of the wonderful educational and recreational resources available in Monroe County.
All participating youth who read and complete their grade level challenges will receive the prize of a free pass to the Seneca Park Zoo for their efforts and a grand prize will also be awarded to the participant from each grade level, who reads the most books, at the end of the summer. Those grand prize winners, and up to 4 members of their families, will join me at a Rochester Red Wings game where they will throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the game! Be sure to complete your challenges and send them to us postmarked or emailed by Wednesday, August 24th, 2016 to qualify for the prizes.
Program requirements for prizes are broken down by the following grade levels:
Pre-Kindergarten Youth: Read at least 3 books and draw a picture of your favorite scene in the book.
Grades K – 5: Read at least 3 books and draw a picture of your favorite book and write a sentence describing why it is your favorite.
Grades 6 – 8: Read at least 3 books and write a 3 sentence paragraph describing which book is your favorite.
Grades 9 – 12: Read at least 3 books and write a 5 sentence paragraph describing which book is your favorite.
Once you’ve completed your challenge, you can email your responses to the Rochester-Monroe County Youth Bureau at [email protected] or mail them to:
